Despite the point made by the writer that fishers can use artificial reefs to increase fishing benefits, the lecture casts doubt on what the writer states by saying that artificial reefs could increase many problems.

In the first place, the author presents a viewpoint that reproduction of fish can be improved with artificial reefs. The listening passage, by contrast, puts forward a divergent opinion that not all kinds of fish reproduce more. This is because the function of artificial reefs are attracting fish from remote area, which lead to more harvests. The more fish catched, the smaller the number of fish will be.

Another point of view expressed by the lecturer is that secure problem may arise if small-scale fishers use artificial, which contradicts the statement given by the reading that artificial reefs can help small-scale fishers against the large corporation in the conpetition. Then the lecturer supports his point by saying that it is dangerous as small-scale fishers can not take advantage of these material.

Finally, although the reading passage asserts that artifical reefs are environment friendly, contrary to what the reading states, the professor maintains that usage of artificial reefs can cause damage to the environment. In order to prove his theory, the professor says that when storm comes, it will made more reefs lost.

The reading suggests that artificial reefs offer benefits such as increased fish populations, economic advantages for small-scale fishers, and an environmentally friendly way to reuse materials. However, the lecture challenges these points.

Firstly, while the reading claims that artificial reefs enhance fish reproduction, the lecture contends that the higher catch numbers near these reefs may not indicate an overall increase in fish populations. The professor argues that the reefs attract fish from other areas, potentially causing a decline in those populations.

Secondly, the reading proposes that allowing small-scale fishers to create secret artificial reefs provides them with a competitive advantage. Conversely, the lecture warns that keeping reef locations secret can lead to safety issues, such as nets getting caught and boats colliding with reefs. The professor suggests that making reef locations known is essential for safety but eliminates the competitive advantage for small-scale fishers.

Lastly, the reading asserts that artificial reefs are environmentally friendly. In contrast, the lecture provides an example, the Osborne Reef, where an artificial reef made of used car tires caused environmental damage during a storm. The professor argues that even with the removal of harmful chemicals, artificial reefs can still pose environmental risks.

In summary, the lecture challenges the reading’s claims by highlighting potential negative consequences, questioning the overall impact on fish populations, emphasizing safety concerns, and presenting an example of environmental damage caused by artificial reefs.
